The Time for Gimmicks Is Over

The tender seedling of digital mobile health applications has meanwhile grown into a robust plant. This was evident at conhIT, where ten exciting applications were presented during the App Circus. “From the perspective of physicians in private practice, three apps were particularly interesting: WoundDesk, CardioSecur active, and smart medication. The ‘Ärzte Zeitung’ has already reported on the latter several times. It is a telemonitoring app for self-administered therapy by hemophilia patients that is ‘prescribed’ by the physician. This app would certainly have deserved first prize. However, since it already reaches 30 percent of the physicians who treat hemophilia patients and 15 percent of the patients themselves, it was apparently not new enough for the jury. Telemonitoring for hemophilia patients is one of the areas where the question of reimbursement for telemedicine services is currently most pressing.”
