Where do we come from?

It all began with research at the Philipps University of Marburg in collaboration with the IT company Rösch & Associates and leading medical specialists. This cooperation of science, medical knowledge and IT expertise is the basis for practical solutions with great benefit for patient and physician.

First and foremost are the electronic diaries for people with hemophilia and ITP, which have been in use since 2012 and are offered today under the names “smart medication eDiary” and “smart medication ITP”.

Today, several thousand patients from several countries work with the applications of smart medication. Because smart medication has long been far more than a digital diary and DiGAs (digital health applications) are becoming ever more important, it is only logical to focus our expertise in one company and to develop it there in a targeted and systematic way. That is why we founded smart medication eHealth Solutions GmbH.

Award-winning! Prizes and honors

With the MSD Gesundheitspreis (MSD Health Award), the smart medication project was honored at the German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) by Parliamentary State Secretary Sabine Weiss as the best “solution to care problems through digitalization”. All prizes and nominations are listed under awards.

The people behind smart medication

  • Dr. Andreas Rösch

    Dr. Andreas Rösch M.S.

    Earned his doctorate in the field of “neural networks / AI” and, with his company Rösch & Associates, has more than 25 years of experience in IT management consulting for large and mid-sized companies, particularly in the sensitive areas of IT security and data protection in the banking & legal industry.

    Dr. David Schmoldt

    Has been working on digital applications in healthcare since 2010 and earned his doctorate in 2016 at Philipps-Universität Marburg with a thesis on the “application of telemedicine in hemostaseology and hemophilia” – at the interface of medicine and business informatics. What began in research, he continues today as managing director of smart medication eHealth Solutions GmbH: digital solutions for rare chronic diseases – from telemedicine and gene therapy to joint research projects with universities. In doing so, he connects everyone involved: patients, physicians and treatment centers, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, health insurers and the scientific community.

Where we stand. Where we are going!

The optimal care of people with chronic diseases is close to our heart. With this goal in mind and with the help of digital health applications (DiGA), smart medication is the go-to partner for solving care processes in healthcare, e.g. the telemedical support and therapy assistance of patients with hemophilia.

A look into the future

Digital health applications provide support on many levels. Through improved communication between the various parties involved, they make it easier to keep track of things, increase safety and ensure a better quality of life.

Collaboration with pharmaceutical companies – clearly regulated

New therapies – from the further development of factor concentrates to gene therapy – originate at research-based pharmaceutical companies. Anyone who wants to improve the care of people with chronic diseases therefore works with them. We do so openly: in joint projects, through interfaces to studies and registries, and in the sponsoring of individual applications. Our products remain manufacturer- and product-independent.

A clear boundary applies to this collaboration: Personal treatment data belongs exclusively to the patient and their treating physician. Pharmaceutical companies are at no time given access to personal patient data. Analyses for science and research are performed exclusively anonymized or pseudonymized – and only with the patients’ consent.

This is safeguarded both technically and legally: operation, hosting and data storage take place on our own servers in Germany on the basis of the GDPR; our applications are – depending on their use – classified as a medical device and CE-certified. One example of this collaboration is the smart medication Price Calculator, an application sponsored by Sobi that deliberately works entirely without personal patient data.
