SG4ChildD

Strengthening emotional competencies in children with depression through Serious Games and gamification

Children with depression often wait a long time for a therapy place. SG4ChildD is developing a Serious Game for eight- to twelve-year-olds that bridges this time meaningfully: playful scenarios practice coping with difficult everyday situations, while a companion character with haptic interactions, a diary feature and gamification elements support emotion regulation – complemented by information for parents and teachers.

Within the consortium, smart medication is responsible for the regulatory requirements as well as backend and dashboard development.

KI-NETIK VeloFitter

Smart bike fitting with hybrid AI

An unfavorable riding position on the bicycle strains the joints and costs efficiency – yet professional bike fitting is elaborate and not available everywhere. KI-NETIK VeloFitter is developing a digital tool that captures the riding position on bicycles and ergometers using markerless, camera-based motion analysis and evaluates it with hybrid AI: usable on a laptop, tablet or smartphone without special cameras, with concrete recommendations for training, prevention and therapy.

As the product partner, smart medication is developing the digital software solution.

SG4smartmedication

Development of methods for AI-supported motion analysis with gamification to support therapy

How can you tell whether the exercises of a movement therapy are performed correctly and regularly – without obtrusive sensors on the body? Together with TU Darmstadt, we developed concepts that use artificial intelligence and camera-based motion analysis to enable a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of exercises. Elements from Serious Games are designed to strengthen motivation and adherence – for example in people with hemophilia.

The project has led to scientific publications, including a paper on the accuracy of camera-based 3D motion estimation (BMT 2023).

SG4Mobility

Environmentally friendly mobility behavior and health promotion with Serious Games

How do you playfully guide people toward environmentally friendly mobility? SG4Mobility developed an app that uses activity recognition on the smartphone to detect the mode of transport being used and combines it with Serious Games and gamification: point systems make your own CO₂ footprint visible, and location-based mini-games – at transit stops, for example – promote physical and mental activity. The app was tested in a 2019 user study in the Offenbach area.

The project was carried out at Rösch & Associates Information Engineering GmbH, from which smart medication was later spun off – it is thus part of the history of our research.
